Located in the northeast corner of Borneo, Sabah, one of the 13 states of Malaysia, is known as the "Land Below the Wind" because it lies below the typhoon and earthquake belt. The population of about 3 million people is multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-lingual.
There are over 30 ethnic communities in Sabah who speak 50 or more different languages and have a rich variety of traditional beliefs, customs and dances. The largest indigenous groups are the Kadazan-Dusun, the Bajau and the Murut.
